Surface sow on fine seed type compost, do not exclude light or cover seed.  To maintain humidity and moisture, you will need a propagator cover, piece of glass, or place the tray in a clear sealed plastic bag until germinated.
Germination averages 2-3 weeks at 16-20c.  Lower overnight temps will reduce germination.
When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and grow them on under cover.
Plant them out into their permanent position in the summer in a sunny spot with good air circulation and fairly fertile, well-drained soil.  Excessive moisture at the roots overwinter may kill the plant.
Cut back the flowering stems and old foliage in spring with care as the leaves have sharp edges and that can give a nasty cut.
